TAKING YOUR DOG OR CAT TO ENGLAND

- Only for dogs and cats travelling WITH their owner
- Only for certain countries like Spain, Holland etc.
- Only when imported by official routes e.g.
o Tunnel Coquelles-Cheriton
o By plane through Heathrow
o By ship Calais-Dover
o By ship Cherbourg, St.Malo, Le Havre to Portsmouth
o By ship Santander to Plymouth

Your dog/ cat: 
1. Has to be identified by a microchip (ISO-standard)

2. Then be vaccinated against rabies (in that order, min. Age 12 weeks)

3. A minimum of 30 days after the rabies vaccination a blood sample is taken in the clinic and sent to an approved laboratory to prove sufficient response (> 0.5 iu)

Six months after the actual blood testing date, with a positive result, the animal can be imported

If the blood test was positive this blood test has not to be repeated for future imports as long as the rabies vaccination is kept up to date with a yearly rabies vaccination (the rabies vaccine has to be done within 365 days, if you go over 365 days the whole blood testing procedure has to be repeated).

4. During import:
- the animal has to be accompanied with an official European passport stating that the animal is vaccinated against rabies successfully. 
- these passports are supplied by your veterinarian and contain:
o Declaration of rabies vaccination
o Chip number, birth date , vaccination dates, name& batch numbers, date next vacc are due, blood test dates

-the passport has to be stamped by a government approved Colegio de Veterinarios, Ministry of Agriculture.

- the animal has to be accompanied with a stamp in your passport from your veterinarian that the animal between 24 and 48 hours before import has been treated against:
-    tapeworm echinococcus multilocularis
-    ticks

TAKING YOUR DOG OR CAT TO SWEDEN

YOUR DOG / CAT:

1. Has to be identified by a microchip (ISO-standard) or tattooed

2. Vaccinated against rabies (registered vaccine) and the cocktail
  (leptospirosis, distemper )
We recommend having two rabies vaccinations done with 1 month apart in younger animals that have never been vaccinated for rabies before.

Rabies: dog: age minimum of 3 months, cat: age minimum of 12 months with first vaccination revaccinate within 1 year and 45 days
Advice: booster after 1 month and revaccinate within the year
Leptospirosis: minimum of 30 days before import (when vaccinated first time), maximum of 1 year and 45 days valid
Distemper: minimum of 30 days before import (when vaccinated first time), maximum of 2 years and 45 days valid

3. A minimum of 120 days and a maximum of 12 months after
The rabies vaccination a blood sample is taken in the clinic and sent to an approved laboratory in Sweden to prove sufficient response.
(this blood test remains valid when yearly vaccination  for rabies is done  within the year, every year )

4. The animal must not have been outside of the EU/EVA region for the past 6 months.

5. Within 10 days before you leave you come to the clinic with your animal and the paperwork.
The vaccination certificate and health certificate are prepared and the de-worming with the correct medication is done.
The health certificate is valid for 10 days
