There are numerous reasons to administer a special diet to your pet. We have veterinary diets from Royal Canin, Hills and Specific available in the Pointer Clinic shop. They are specifically designed to your pets needs, please ask for advice about the following conditions:
OBESITY:
Being overweight causes a serious burden to certain organs i.e. joints, heart, liver, skin, kidneys, etc.
BLADDERSTONES:
Cats and dogs might develop crystal formation in their urine and in time will develop bladderstones making urination painful or impossible.
RENAL INSUFFICIENCY:
Due to age or infection the kidneys might not be able to function normally, hence the elimination of waste products is compromised.
HEART DECOMPENSATION:
At the last phase of heart disease diets can reduce the cardiac load by reducing minerals like salt.
INTESTINAL DISORDERS:
When the digestion is affected due to infection, allergy, surgical procedures, etc. a special diet will help the digestive tract in its recovery or in handling chronic disease.
ALLERGY:
Food allergies can be managed by choosing the correct diet. There are two ways to check for specific food allergies: blood test or food elimination trial. Ask us for further advice.
Inhalation allergy (or atopy) can be positively influenced by special diets.
DIABETES MELLITUS (DM):
Diabetes control is very dependant on a balanced, regular diet.
JOINT DISEASE:
Several components of the DJD or arthritis regime can be found in a special joint diet.
RECOVERY:
After a period of malnutrition (severe intestinal infection/surgery) or at higher demand of nutrition (pregnancy/lactation/growth) diets that contain a higher level of nutrients are essential.
